Property damage claims under homeowners insurance policies occur more frequently for water damage as compared to claims for theft and fire combined. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that water damage is the leading cause of avoidable homeowner insurance claims, as the smallest of leaks can cause significant damage.

This is why American Water Resources is partnering with Flo by Moen, to offer the Flo by Moen Smart Water Shutoff system in select states, installed by a professional from our independent contractor network. The Flo by Moen Smart Water Shutoff is a comprehensive smart water monitoring and leak prevention device that proactively detects leaks as small as a drop per minute and alerts homeowners through their smartphones. Through the Flo by Moen App, homeowners get the convenience and control of customizable notifications, water usage analysis and goal-setting features, and the ability to remotely shut off water if a leak is detected.

Detect Leaks Before Damage Occurs

Ten percent of homes have water leaks that waste at least 90 gallons of water each day – most of the time unknown to the homeowner. When these pipe leaks go unnoticed, damage to your home’s infrastructure may occur. In fact, a 1/8-inch pipe crack can cause as much as 250 gallons of water loss in a day’s time. However, technology is advancing so much today that certain measures can be put in place to proactively address some of these challenges before they even arise and hopefully avoid the “worst-case” from becoming reality.

Tips

To identify water leaks in your home, you can watch, look and listen for signs of leaks. That’s watch your water bill for any spikes that may indicate unnecessary water usage. Look for water stains on walls and ceilings, or pools of water next to appliances that are hooked up to your water supply -dishwashers, refrigerators, etc. Finally, listen for signs like a toilet draining/refilling or a faucet dripping.

Our Continued Commitment

At American Water Resources, we always put homeowners first. We’re excited to bring this partnership to life and provide homeowners with the tools they need to identify leaks before major issues occur and ultimately, help save money and conserve freshwater resources that may be wasted due to undetected leaks.
