Water is Everyone’s Responsibility

Every individual and community has the ability to positively impact our environment.  That’s why since 2005, American Water has been offering funds for innovative, community-based environmental projects that improve, restore or protect the watersheds, surface water and/or groundwater supplies in the communities they serve.

The 2012 recipients of American Water’s Environmental Grant Program encompass a total of 48 projects throughout service areas in ten states supported by grants totaling more than $180,000. Over the course of a handful of future blog posts, I’m going to take a closer look at a number of grantees who understand that Earth Day is every day. With so many communities working year-round to help protect their waterways, these grantees are embodying the notion that source water protection is everyone’s responsibility.

Water supports all life; we depend on it as much as the air we breathe, which is why it is so critical that everyone does their part in protecting it. These groups’ efforts are pushing toward the belief that, with a little teamwork, we can better achieve our goals.

Keep following for future posts about these amazing groups, and if you work with an organization making a difference in the water systems where you live, let us know about it.
