It’s somewhat of a cliché to remind you this Earth Day that it is important to be on Mother Nature’s good side every day. As that old margarine commercial said “It’s not nice to fool Mother Nature!”.
Earth Day is one of my favorite holidays and I love that it encourages many communities to come together in order to make the world a little bit greener (now more important than ever). But initiatives must continue on all of the non-Earth Days in order to make a change.
American Water sponsors an Environmental Grant Program that offers funds for innovative projects that the whole community can be involved in. One of the requirements for a project to receive the grant is that it must be sustainable, and be able to continue after the grant money expires. That might sound daunting, but really, it is not. And, it ensures that the environment will be bettered year-round.
Some of the 2012 Environmental Grant recipients have already been announced, and others will be over the next few weeks. Check back to American Water’s Facebook or Twitter pages to see when the next grants will be awarded, or to see who already won in your state.
Do you have an innovative idea to help the environment? Have we inspired you to take action? Keep in touch with us and feel free to ask us any questions on how to apply to possibly be chosen as one of next year’s recipients.
It is important to celebrate our beautiful Earth this Earth Day, but I hope that you will all remember that it is our responsibility to protect and maintain that beauty year round.
